The Island City Story

I created Island City Boards from a love of the sea, a desire to reduce our impact on the environment and a search for fun.

Each product is hand crafted, in Portsmouth, with an emphasis on using sustainability sourced materials or salvaged wood.

Every board I make is cut, shaped and finished individually, with the focus on quality over quantity.

My Baltic Birch Plywood bellyboards have a rocker to help you slide and reduce the chances of pearling. They have a hard bottom rail to help with skimming across the whitewater and also cut into the green waves for the more advanced stuff.

My salvaged wood boards are made from pallets, fence posts or any reclaimed wood. They are assembled and shaped to produce lighter, flexible bellyboards. Perhaps, the most sustainable wood is the one that has served its original purpose and then is saved from the skip to serve another?

Not only do my boards look good on the beach, they look cool hanging on a wall. They can be available as a blank board ready for you to create an art piece.

These boards are fast, like really fast! When you catch a wave, that feeling of speed puts a biggest of smiles on your face. And being made from wood, they will last longer than the average polystyrene bodyboard. In fact, approximately 16000 polystyrene bodyboards become litter on the UK’s beaches. Wooden bellyboards are stronger and can last for generations.

In addition to the boards, there is a collection of Island City T-shirts and hoodies. These are made from organic or part – recycled cottons and are available for men, women and children.

Despite not being known for big waves, Portsmouth – the UK’s island city has a lot of lovers of surf culture. With Island City Boards, I hope to keep the love going.
